Privacy and confidentiality is central to the treatment process, whether you’re a counsellor, a physiotherapist or an acupuncturist.
It’s important for both ethical and legal reasons (see our post on Data Protection). It extends to your client data and your emails, too.
No doubt you protect your client data by password-protecting your computer, keeping files and backup discs in a secure place, and shredding compromising documents. But protecting your emails is more difficult. That’s where encryption can help.
While your heart may sink at the thought of having to encrypt your emails, it’s relatively straightforward to achieve. And it only extends to emails that contain confidential information, such as personal details of clients and their treatment.
We’ve just uploaded a new article about encryption to The Private Practice Hub. We’ve also commissioned independent reviews of encryption software, which you can find here.
Do you use encryption software? Do you have any questions? Let us know – we’d love to hear from you.
