My client is stuck and so am I! What do you suggest I do next?

First thing to do is not panic. The feeling and experience of being stuck is not good or bad it is just a condition. It is a common experience for people and most of us have experienced it. As a coach we do not want to make it ‘wrong to be stuck. What helps is to let the experience of stuckness be something people experience from a place of curiosity. Getting stuck is in part a way we respond to a variety of stimulations. For instance we may be stuck because we have too many choices. We may feel stuck because we have too few or the ones we do have are unappealing so we don’t want to think about them. Being stuck can be a very positive experience if we reframe it as a useful place to stop and look around and revue how we got to stuc and what might have brought us to this point.
As a coach relax and don’t tell yourself you need to be not stuck. Just be curious about your clients world in stuckness and don’t get caught up in trying to unstick them because you think that′s what you are supposed to do! They will unstick themselves once they have the necessary information, direction and emotional energy to move in a direction that feels useful to them.
