Certified Specialist in Trauma & PTSD, Complex Trauma, Depression, Mood Disorders, Anxiety. Integrative approach built around evidenced methods.
My Services:

Dear Potential Client I am an Integrative and Multi-Modal psychotherapist est 1993, practicing in Edinburgh and Online. Integrative therapy is the combination of multiple professional models of therapy together with core models, and multi modal refers to being fully accredited, each in their own right in multiple core models.  Being both integrative and multi modal means maximum flexibility to provide the appropriate therapy plan for clients based on their own individual need, research evidence, and NICE guidelines. I am a highly experienced therapist, having started in 1993, and also having provided online and phone based support since around 2005, adhering to (and having written) professional body advice for both, including for the recent COVID-19 lockdown. Currently I am available for both face to face sessions, and ongoing virtual online sessions I started my career with a graduate (level 5) diploma in Analysis, Hypnosis and Stress Management counselling, externally accredited through the NVQ system.  At this stage I already had a BSc(Hons) in a business related degree specialising in human resources and analytic modelling. I continued my accreditation years later by completing the accreditation process in Psychotherapy (psychoanalysis and CBT), counselling, and hypnosis with the NACHP. BOTH my diploma and my later accreditation were verification routes for the later CNHC voluntary regulator under hypnotherapy. Since then I have completed degrees in psychology and philosophy and psychology and politics topics, as well as a Masters degree in Psychology and a Level 7(post grad) Diploma in Complex Trauma . I have also completed a wide range of competency, clinician CPD certification and post qualification accreditations. These include:

  • Competency in CBASP form of Cognitive Behavioral Analysis (Dundee University)
  • Competency in Clinical Mindfulness for Groups and Individuals
  • Competency in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy
  • Competency in MBCT for depression
  • Competency in ACT Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
  • Post Qualification, Post Graduate
  • Specialist in Integrative Trauma Treatment (CCTP I)
  • Specialist in Complex Trauma and Dissociative Disorder (CCTP II)
  • Specialist in Complex Clinical Trauma CCT-S
  • Specialist in using Hypnosis, Neurology & Mind-body therapy for Trauma
  • Specialist in Anxiety Treatment (CCATP)
  • Specialist in Depression and Mood Disorder Treatment (CDMDTP)
  • Specialist in Attention based disorder Treatment (ADHD-CCSP)CPD Certification for clinicians
  • Relational EMDR Masterclass
  • DBT Dialectic Behavioural Therapy for psychotherapy practice
  • Clinical Mindfulness for psychotherapy practiceOther CPD areas include attachment, parts work, Integrated Family Systems, Polyvagal theory and many other trauma based models.

I am therefore a specialist, and I only usually take on people in the following groups:

  • Complex PTSD and Trauma
  • Survivors of Sexual, Domestic, Violent and Psychological abuse
  • Survivors of Rape, sexual assault and Incest
  • Long term or “”treatment resistant”” depression and anxiety
  • Mood disorders and personality disorders
  • Personal development from attachment, relationship and development issues
  • Couples therapy
  • Anger management, customised management and treatment of deeper cause

Trauma work is a particular interest of mine, which often overlaps with anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, anger, stress and other conditions. Modern research shows that “”talking therapy”” alone (like counselling) is not effective with complex trauma, and instead the recommended approach combined talking therapy with psycho-education, somatic processing, parts work, attachment work, well being work, holistic work, and often takes a three stage process:

  1. Stabilisation
  2. Reintegration, healing and reattachment
  3. Moving forward and thriving

I also have specialist knowledge and training in:

  • Ex forces
  • LGBT*, especially Lesbian, Bisexual and Gay
  • Polysexual and Kink / BDSM
  • Spirituality based issues including clients from Pagan, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist and Muslim backgrounds

I am NOT a specialist in non binary, trans or BAME (Black) issues although I have worked with all of these groups. My clients attend face to face or virtually on a weekly or fortnightly regular basis, and once in therapy, the client has their regular slot for which they are responsible for the length of their therapy. My new offices in Central Edinburgh are regularly deep cleaned, COVID policy checked and I have personally completed COVID safety training. Covid consent forms and PPE requirements apply. If you think you might be interested, please email me in the first instance and I will send you information by email that should answer most if not all of your questions. I do not “”chat”” with clients by phone in advance since anything commented on would be speculative and thus unethical and unprofessional. I am a:
